A NORTON man who set his rival's three huts on fire after his child accused him of possessing 'mubobobo' has been hauled to court. Lazarus Banda (35) appeared before Mbare magistrate Tendai Rusinahama facing allegations of malicious damage to property. He allegedly burnt three huts belonging to Swede Sugar (63).
Since both are traditional healers, the pair had clashed over clients, a court heard. On the day in question, it was alleged that Sugar had an altercation with Banda's child. "I did not burn your houses, did you see me, you are lying before this court," he said. He also told the court that he only had an altercation with Sugar's son and it ended there.
"I only had an altercation with your son after he said I had mubobobo," he added. However, Sugar who is also a traditional healer in the same area said that Banda indeed burnt his houses. "You said you were going to burn my houses and in about 30 minutes my three houses were on fire," he said.
Magistrate Rusinahama remanded Banda out of custody on free bail to December 7, for his trial continuation.
Allegations are that on September 3, at Somerby Estate Bottle Store Banda had an altercation with Taona, Sugar's son. It is alleged that the small boy had earlier on embarrassed Banda in front of the public that he had 'mubobobo' and this did not go down well with him resulting in a fist fight.
Banda fought with Sugar over clients, the court heard. He lost all his tools for his job. The matter came to light when Sugar simply lodged a police report leading to the arrest of Banda before he was brought before the court. Total value of destroyed property was US$250 and nothing was recovered. Prosecutor Revai Mudozori appeared for the State.
