33 senior officers complete high level military course

Senior military leaders who completed the National Defence Course at the National Defence College have been challenged to proffer solutions to conflicts facing the region.

Speaking during the graduation ball held to honour 33 senior officers who completed the National Defence Course in Harare, Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba said the senior strategic programme that focused on tactical, operational and administrative issues should be reflective of the graduates' competencies in executing their duties.

He said it is important for military leaders to undergo such courses to help develop their leadership capacities and upgrade their level of problem solving.

Major General Nyikayaramba said conflicts affecting the continent require leaders who are up to the task, stating that the dynamic situation in the world require strategic thinking.
He said collaboration between regional forces has helped to improve cohesion in the region, adding that regional security should be a priority.

The 33 graduates who completed the National Defence Course are largely from Zimbabwe with other participants from countries that include Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa.

The National Defence Course is the highest leadership course for the defence forces in the country and is designed for senior officers who are due for appointment to senior positions.
