A Nkayi man reportedly raped a 13-year-old girl while her father was attending an all-night prayer. The crime came to light when the girl confessed that her father was sexually abusing her as well.
The girl kept the rape incident to herself for four months as her father; the only surviving member of her family, was also raping her. Methuli Ncube appeared before senior regional magistrate Mr Tranos Utahwashe facing rape charges and pleaded not guilty.
Mr Utahwashe remanded him in custody to August 17. Prosecuting Mr Robin Mukura alleges that on an unknown date in January this year, Ncube met the girl fetching water at Shangani River.
"He proposed love and the girl turned him down. After two days Ncube proceeded to the girl's home during the night when her father had gone for prayers," said Mr Mukura.
"On arrival Ncube opened her bedroom hut and entered. At that moment, he grabbed the girl and undressed her." The court heard that Ncube raped the girl once.
"After the act, Ncube left the homestead and went back to his home. The girl was already living in trauma and failed to reveal the matter to anyone as her father was raping her," he said.
Mr Mukura said the matter came to light after a school development committee member informed police through a tip off that the girl's father was sexually abusing her. "During investigations she mentioned that Ncube had also raped her.''
The girl's father is appearing before regional magistrate Mr Chrispen Mberewere and also pleaded not guilty to rape. He was remanded in custody to August 18 for trial.
