THE Dumiso Dabengwa-led Zapu has introduced a youth quota system cutting across all its structures to ensure young people are involved in the party's decision-making process and facilitate a smooth succession policy.

Zapu deputy youth chairperson, Lovejean Ndlovu, told Southern Eye at the weekend that the new system will be implemented at the party's elective congress slated for August 24 to 27 in Bulawayo.

Ndlovu expressed gratitude to the party leadership for roping in youths in the party's top leadership positions.

"The party has acknowledged the need for leadership renewal across the board in line with the ever evolving socio-political environment and generational changes that have affected Zapu since its inception in 1961," she said.

"It is a vote of confidence in us the young people and it should be commended. The party, as a democratic movement, has seen it fit to fuse experience with potential and the result will be a well-oiled machine that is synonymous with the demands of the current political and leadership world."

Ndlovu said Zapu youths have since started identifying suitable candidates within their ranks to fill top party posts.

"There is incredible depth in the ranks of the youth front and we will forward our best guns to do duty," she said, adding Zanu-PF leader, President Robert Mugabe had become a national liability and should be removed without further delay.

"The country got rid of the colonial and imperialist powers in 1980, but that did not translate into freedom, since a white racist leader was replaced by a black dictator. So Zapu, having scored a victory against whites in 1980, will do to the current dictator regime, what the party did to the Rhodesian Front led by former colonial leader, Ian Smith. Zapu will deliver total freedom to the people of Zimbabwe."
