Information Minister Christopher Mushohwe has applauded NewsDay reporter Richard Chidza for distributing the alleged 'treasonous' war veterans communiqué to other media houses.
Chidza was last week summoned by the law and order police department to explain the source of the statement that called for President Robert Mugabe to resign.
Mushohwe defended the police move.
"Richard Chidza was said to be circulating the paper to other media houses," he told reporters Tuesday evening.
"He was asked to explain where he got it. We are not saying he originated the document, but must explain where it came from.
"In fact, we must thank him for that".
Mugabe ordered a thorough investigation into the origins of the statement pledging severe punishment on the authors.
