Sangoma fingered in Dembare crisis

DYNAMOS are sitting on a time-bomb as the executive structure is now almost non-existent at time they are performing dismally on the field of play while big decisions on sponsorship must be taken.

After the departure of secretary general Webster Chikengezha, Dynamos are now left with president Kenny Mubaiwa and treasurer Webster Marechera, who is also acting secretary general.

However, the reality on the ground is that the board has literally taken over the responsibility of making all the big decisions and yesterday, Marechera could not commit discussing future sponsorship.

"I'm not the secretary general and I'm sorry I cannot comment on that one (sponsorship). It is a sensitive issue. Right now we have sponsors and that is our situation," said Marechera.

Dynamos' sponsorship deal with BancABC is coming to an end and many analysts have pointed out that the club must be in the know as to whether the sponsors will be coming on board, and if not, look for new partners.

That BancABC sponsorship has kept Dynamos stable and if they do not renew the partnership, as is feared, the turbulent days could be back at the Glamour Boys.

Such a scenario is made worse by the fact that there is now no separation of powers between board and executive.

Asked on how they were functioning as an executive, Marechera referred all questions to Marriot.

However, Marriot has not been available to give an insight of the situation at Dynamos.

Club president Mubaiwa also did not give something concrete on the future of coach Lloyd Mutasa as coach, amid a lot of speculation. "We always meet and take decisions collectively and we are yet to hold a meeting," he said.

An H-Metro source said: "As things stand, the president cannot come out in the open and tell the world he no longer has the same power that he had from 2011 to around mid 2015.

"But this creates a situation at the moment whereby board chairman Marriot cannot hold Mubaiwa and Marechera to account as he has been participating in most of the decisions taken by the so-called executive. What he can only do at the moment is make one of them a scapegoat for all the mess to escape the wrath of supporters.

"For that reason, Marechera cannot go ahead and engage the sponsors on the future without Marriot's blessings. At the same time club president Mubaiwa cannot also not change the team's technical team, if there is reason to, as was the case in the past, without Marriot's input.

"He can also not even recoment someone to fulfill the vacant secretary general position as the case in the past. They all wait on Marriot."

Such a situation could also have been one of the reasons former SG Chekengezha called it quits.

"It becomes difficult when you are under pressure from the fans and on the other hand your hands are tied and you cannot make the necessary decisions to get yourself out of the mess."

Another school of thought is that the board could make a total overhaul of the executive.

"That cannot be ruled out given the situation on the ground. But at the moment the crisis that is there is that, the technical team cannot at all say they are under pressure from the executive as the executive do not have power to fire them at the moment unless ordered to do so by the board represented by Marriot.

"It is him who actually spends a lot of the time at the team's training sessions and therefore more hands-on than the executive itself," said the source.

There are further claims that Dynamos' current run of six winless matches is a result of a clash within the club's leadership over which sangomas to consult.

Dynamos is claimed to have people within its leadership who believe in juju and therefore consult sangomas before every match.

Now there are claims that while one of the club leaders had settled for a sangoma based in Chihota, others are against the choice arguing that he is already doing consultations for one of the leaders.

As such, the argument is that using the Chihota sangoma will result in Dynamos funds being used to settle the individual's personal transactions.

Those with this theory believe the sangomas is now fighting to make sure that Dynamos does not win any matches.
