RBZ governor Gideon Gono has praised Finance minister Tendai Biti's 2012 budget for restoring the RBZ as lender of last resort function and the budget which tried to give something to everyone.
But Simba Makoni feels Biti is politicking by allocating resources across the board to "please everyone."
RBZ governor Gideon Gono told delegates at a business dinner organised by CZI on Saturday night that the absence of an election budget was a potential minefield in the generally good budget.
"I have been a governor for several years now and I know what an election budget can do. If it turns out elections are there next year as has been pronounced, it means we will be in a fix unless we have a purse elsewhere", he said.
Meanwhile, civil servants and labour unions yesterday said Finance Minister Tendai Biti's 2012 National Budget failed to address their concerns. Workers said the manner in which the budget was structured showed there was nothing for them.
In the $4 billion budget, Biti moved the tax threshold by $25, up from $225 and revised upwards the tax-free bonus threshold from $500 to $700.
Zimbabwe Teachers Association chief executive Sifiso Ndlovu said workers should brace for hard-times.
