The Finance and Economic Development Portfolio Committee will be conducting public hearings across the country on the 2017 National Budget starting on Monday 12 September to 17 as shown in the schedule below.
The objective of these public consultative meetings is to engender a participatory budget framework based on a bottom-up approach in line with the provisions of the Public Finance Management Act and the Constitution, which are aimed at broadening the democratic space in economic governance.
"In this regard, all stakeholders are encouraged to seize this opportunity and meaningfully participate in the 2017 National Budget formulation process as their views will form the basis of the Committee's report," reads the notice.
"The Committee will present its findings and recommendations to the Minister of Finance and Economic Development at a Pre-Budget Seminar in October this year. Hence the Committee's recommendations will help to influence the 2017 National Budget priorities and the economic policy direction."
