President Robert Mugabe today expressed his deep frustration at opposition MDC-T and vowed to severely deal with its members for engaging in violence.
Mugabe told his Zanu-PF Central Committee members in Harare that "MDC are playing a very dangerous game now".
"Let them be warned, the MDC, when we (Zanu PF) move against them they should not cry.
"If MDC take actions which are painful they have only themselves to blame. Many of them have never been locked up.
"The MDC are playing a very dangerous game now. A very very dangerous game with their demonstrations mad violence," said, Mugabe.
He the issued a warning to protesters, "Be warned, our patience has limits. It will definitely run out" he said without elaborating.
Mugabe claimed that the 'Western-sponsored protests are distracting the government from focusing on the economy.
"Protests are a smokescreen for the real intention. Deep in their minds they want to avoid going to elections in 2018".
Social movements have escalated anti-government campaigns on social media, while liberation war fighters, who have been the backbone of the ruling party over the years, have also fallen out of favour with the ageing leader.
Riots broke at Beitbridge Border Post on July 1 with police failing to combat the demonstrators.
This led to all the police officers being transferred after the Police Internal Security Intelligence at the border town complained the police officers had ignored their early warning calls on the riots.
Since then more protests have been held each week, prompting the government to issue an order banning all demonstrations.
Desperate to thwart protests organised by Nera to demand electoral reform, the government last week imposed a two-week ban on demonstrations within Harare's central business district.
The High Court, however, on Wednesday declared the ban invalid and unconstitutional.
