Nandos Zimbabwe distances self from 'the last dictator' advert

NANDOS Zimbabwe, a subsidiary of Innscor Afrca Ltd, has distanced itself from the advert generated by Nandos South Africa for the South African market, which denigrates President Mugabe.

Innscor Africa group corporate affairs executive, Mr Musekiwa Kumbula, said Nandos Zimbabwe was a franchisee from Nandos International and operated as an autonomous entity, generating its own advertisements and marketing strategies locally, targeting Zimbabweans. Nandos Zimbabwe is run by Innscor.

"The Nandos SA advertisement, which denigrates the person of President RG Mugabe, was generated in South Africa, by Nandos South Africa for South African markets and clientele. Nandos Zimbabwe strongly feels the advertisement was insensitive and in poor taste. No consultation takes place between the different franchisees when they are formulating and executing marketing strategies for their respective markets.

"Nandos Zimbabwe prides itself in being a company committed to sound corporate governance and is committed to national economic growth through corporate taxes, levies, employment generation and the general improvement of the quality of life for Zimbabweans through its corporate social investment programme," said Mr Kumbula.
