Government has been urged to prioritise retrenchment packages for civil servants who will be affected by the labour rationalisation exercise which was proposed by Minister of Finance, Patrick Chinamasa during the mid year fiscal policy review.

This was said by Mutare residents during the 2017 national budget consultation process.

Despite low turnout which characterised the national budget consultation meeting in Mutare, spearheaded by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Finance and Economic Development, residents said government should set aside retrenchment packages for those who are going to be affected by the exercise.

Others noted the need to allocate 15 percent to the health sector in line with the Abuja Declaration and to fully support the agriculture and education sector.

The need to plug illicit flaws and corruption was also a top priority during the 2017 national budget consultation process.

Dorothy Mhangami who led the portfolio committee members on Finance and Economic Development in Mutare said despite the low turnout, the residents articulated key issues which needs special attention in the 2017 national budget.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Finance and Economic Development and three other portfolio committees have started the countrywide national budget consultation process to gather view from the public, stakeholders and organisations.

The exercise will be completed on the 17th of this month.
