Viva Zimbabwe General Secretary Agerncy Gumbo released a direct message to Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri today at a Press Conference held in Harare this morning to respect the constitution following recent police brutality against protestors in the country.
"This is a message to the police, you say you are following orders so let me speak to your superior …..Mr Chihuri, you need to start respecting the constitution, we are not ignorant of your connections with the ruling party……and those who appointed you where you are but all the same as a matter of principal the constitution is far above the people who put you where you are,….above political party alignments……is the supreme law of the country and as such it has to be respected. Let the police do their job and protect their people without favour………….Go in your organisation and loot out any elements that are against the will of the people" said Gumbo
According to his statement the police has become an extended hand of Zanu PF to deprive the constitutional rights of Zimbabweans for peaceful protests without police interference. "ChiZanu ngachipere muZRP ngachibude….. the people we know who are violent mayouth eZanu Pf"" echoed Agerncy .
He also told journalists that the same police which doesn't have salaries and struggling to make ends meet are the once used to attack the same people who are protesting for their democracy, economic revival and better living conditions for the impoverished Zimbabweans.
The government is giving a blind eye to needs of Zimbabweans, all what they are demanding is democracy, eradication of unemployment, anti-corruption and economic revival "Kana mwana akati ndonzwa nzara its not your place as a father to beat that child up, a hungry child has a right to demand food from his father. Mwana akati ndoda hove haumupe nyoka that's what the government is doing….when they go out to and express their expectation to this particular government" said Gumbo.
Instead of meeting needs of the people the government is waging war against peaceful protestors using police and they are being treated as hooligans "Zimbabweans are peaceful people but police brutality is pushing them to the edge that will lead them to reveal their other side that is violent "Sure kana muchiti maZimbabweans ari violent rmukaramba muchivasunda muone… we don't believe in destruction of property but the police do not become instigators of violence because it's only a matter of time until the people of Zimbabwe will say taneta kana iwe uchigona kuribata ini handigonewo here……. Let's avoid that by working together"
He went on to say that the police is also being ignorant to threats made by Zanu PF youths to the public and some individuals "….Zanu Pf hooligans masquerading as youths coming out to declare war against the protestors and surely the police do nothing. We have heard of no arrests, the only arrest we know is Promise Mukwananzi who is coming out to protect the rights of the people, Gift Ostallo Siziva who is coming out to say students are demanding a stake on how this country is being run …and we have Jim Kunaka coming to say I am going to come out for this boy called Lumumba and cut his legs and the police do nothing. These are threats made on public media and the police do nothing about that" he said.
