Cashier steals $1 614 from prominent Masvingo businesswoman

A prominent Masvingo businesswoman popularly known as Amai Anna who runs a chain of shops in the high density suburbs recently lost $1 641.15 to one of her employees who was in the habit of stealing money from a shop she worked at and keeping it at her home.

Sarah Tagutanazvo (35) of Mucheke A appeared before Magistrate Langton Ndokera facing theft charges after stealing the money from kwaMai Anna Shop located at the Mucheke Bus Rank.

Tagutanazvo was employed by Susan Jakuvose as a shop cashier.

The court led by Nancy Makuvise heard that, between July 6 and August 20 this year, Tagutanazvo was working at KwaMai Anna shop where she was in charge of the cashbox, receiving money from the purchasers and securing it in the cash box.

Tagutanazvo unlawfully took different amounts of money on different occasions from the cash box to her house.

On August 20, 2016 Tagutanazvo took $450 from the stolen cash and brought it with her to work.

During inspection, security guard, Albert Muchido found that Tagutanazvo had $450 and asked her where she got the money, but she falsely stated that Jakuvose had paid her July monthly salary.

Jakuvose was informed and she immediately came to the shop and interviewed Tagutanazvo about the matter.

Jakuvose made investigations and found out that, Tagutanazvo stole $1614.15 and kept it in her room.

The whole amount was recovered and Magistrate Ndokera ordered Tagutanazvo to do 210 hours community service at Masvingo High Court.
