OUTSPOKEN Matabeleland South proportional representation MP, Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga says the government should start addressing underlying ethnic differences among the country's major tribes to avoid incidences where those who felt aggrieved by the status quo start taking the law into their hands.

Misihairabwi-Mushonga said this following a controversial placard by a Highlanders football fan last week which was insulting Shonas, calling them dogs.

According to NewZimbabwe.com, Misihairabwi-Mushonga said condemning the placard carrier was folly as Zimbabweans were merely addressing symptoms of a far bigger problem.

The MDC legislator, born to a Shona father and Ndebele mother, said people in her constituency have always complained about being left behind when it came to the distribution of the country's resources.

This, she said, involved the use of their Ndebele language which she said has been ignored by the larger majority of Zimbabweans especially on national television and radio stations.

"It only shows us that there is a problem and that the sooner we address it, the better.

"Today it's just a placard, tomorrow it could be guns; it could be dead bodies. Instead of being upset and angry with the person who did the placard, we should be saying this is just but a symptom of a bigger problem that we have and how do we quickly address it. Otherwise, we are headed for a serious problem," she is quoted by NewZimbabwe.com.
