Man fined $50 for smuggling goods from Mozambique

A man from Cowdray Park has been fined $50 for smuggling goods worth $200 from Mozambique into Zimbabwe.
Actine Nyathi (52) pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure. The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to pay $50 fine or spend 15 days in jail.
The court was told that on September 7 this year at 2:30am detectives from the border control unity at Joshua Nkomo Airport in Bulawayo received information that that Nyathi had smuggled goods from Mozambique through the Forbes Border Post without declaring them or paying duty.
They went to Rixi Taxis in the city where they spotted Nyathi who was in Mahube Express Bus. They searched his luggage and discovered that he had bales of clothes and boots. When they asked him to produce the declaration particulars he failed leading to his arrest.
Councillor in trouble for sidelining residents in committee selection
Harare Residents Trust has said residents of Lochnivar have raised concern that Councillor Peter Moyo did not consult residents when he chose members of the ward development committee.
The trust said most of the members of the committee are his political affiliates.
"The police have complained that they were not involved in the election and are not aware of the developments that are taking place. The ward development committee should have the following members the Councillor, Secretary-District Officer and representatives from residents groups, business, police, youth, health ,education, people living with disability and churches," said the trust.
"The residents complained that the councillor has been given $9000.00 so far but no feedback meeting has been done to inform residents of the developments made."
