Beitbridge seeks municipality status

Beitbridge town is currently seeking a municipality status and the Local Government, Public Works and National Housing minister Saviour Kasukuwere has appointed a commission to hear residents views on the application.

The commission will be expected to make recommendations after hearing residents' views.

The developments appear in a notice published by the local authority advising the residents of the application.

"Notice is hereby given that Beitbridge town council has applied to be upgraded from a town to a municipality. In response to the application by Beitbridge town council requesting to be upgraded, the Minister of Local Government Public Works and National Housing has in terms of the Urban Councils Act 29: 15 S: 14 (3) appointed a commission to hear residents views on the application and make recommendations to minister," reads the notice.

"Those who want to make sub, missions can do so to the commission team either in written form before October 24."

The notice was signed by town secretary Loud Ramagapola.
