A jealous woman from Zvishavane who didn't approve of her son's marriage, assaulted her daughter-in-law before forcing her legs apart and ripping off the stitches sewn on her private part soon after giving birth.

Diares Sibanda (50) inserted four fingers into the private part of the daughter in-law who was still to recover from birth pangs and tore off the stitches sewn on her.

Sibanda was arrested for assault but this was later changed to aggravated indecent assault at the Zvishavane Magistrate Courts and required a higher court to deal with the matter. She was later granted bail but committed suicide two days later.

Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko confirmed the case.

The State said when Sibanda inserted her fingers into her daughter-in-law's vagina, she demanded that the later perform the sex antics she had with her son.

The daughter is now admitted at hospital where she is nursing the injuries sustained after the stitches were torn apart.

Sibanda was arrested and brought to Zvishavane Magistrate's court where she was remanded in custody awaiting trial date from the Regional court but her relatives applied for bail which was granted.

Goko said that on September 9, 2016 after being released from remand prison, Sibanda told her husband that she wanted to go and visit relatives in Bulawayo.

She even communicated that she had arrived safely, said Goko. The next day Sibanda texted her husband saying if she fail to reach home he should look for him near Machalaga Hills.

"Her body was however found by a passerby," said Goko.
