Opposition MDC-T is set to hold low key 17th anniversary celebrations on Saturday in Bulawayo.

The party leadership blames economic conditions for not holding huge festivities.

"We are operating under a very tight budget owing to the destruction of the economy by Zanu PF," said the party national organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe.

He said ordinary party members made personal financial sacrifice to hold the event under the theme "MDC @17: Redefining the End Game".

MDC-T was known for holding lavish celebrations.

MDC-T organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe said the harsh economic climate did not allow the holding of a "massive event", hence a low-key ceremony.

Bhebhe said MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai was expected at the anniversary celebrations where his new deputies Nelson Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri would also be unveiled.
