Mvurwi Residents association is allegedly up in arms with Mvurwi town council as council refuses to recognise the association.
Speaking to Bulawayo24 the residents' association organising secretary Emmanuel Nkambala said the association is duly registered and has a Deed of Trust currently in position of Bulawayo24.
Nkambala said they are fighting hard to be recognised in Mvurwi and have since approached the Ministry of Local government who promised to look into the matter urgently.
"Despite the resistance by the local council we are putting everything to chance we need a residents association in Mvurwi to speak on behalf of the residents and to curb a lot of graft and abuse of office by the council officials, but since there are a lot of squabbles in council we will fight to the last. One wonders why council officials are highly opposed to the idea of a Residents Association yet major towns in Zimbabwe have similar associations. If they don't have anything to hide they should actually welcome us with open hands.
It is astonishing to note that the town Secretary Sheri Nyakudya actually says we do not need a residents association Mvurwi,"lamented Kambala.
Meanwhile, the town secretary was not immediately available for comment as her mobile phone was power off.
Vendors are also complaining against the conduct of council guys who are harassing them on a daily basis confiscating their products. The chief culprit amongst the council employees is Cosmas Maroto who is accused of being overzealous and is also alleged to be demanding sexual favours from female vendors in exchange for returning their goods and tip offs when they are coming for their raids.
Maroto is also using his personal white Toyota Vits, after hours impounding vendors' products portraying himself as above the law.
