President Robert Mugabe is in Maseru, Lesotho where he will join other African leaders in celebrations to mark the mountain kingdom's golden jubilee.

The celebrations will take place at Sesotho Stadium from early morning tomorrow with speeches, cultural performances and other activities lined up for the day.

On arrival in Lesotho, Mugabe was received at Moshoeshoe International Airport by that country's Prime Minister, Mr Motezhwa Metsing and Zimbabwe's Ambassador to South Africa, Isaac Moyo, who is also accredited to Maseru.

From the welcoming party, Mugabe proceeded to the ceremonial dais for the sounding of the national anthems of the African Union, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

He then proceeded to inspect a guard of honour before being received by Sotho cultural dancers.

Lesotho attained independence in 1966 from British rule.

The President is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and presidential spokesman, George Charamba.
