Suspended Zimra Commissioner-General Gershem Pasi allowed corruption to flourish as he took no action besides being aware.
Pasi, once said to be among the highest-paid executives in the country, was sent on paid leave, together with five executive managers by the ZIMRA board.
The others are Charlton Chihuri (Director Loss control) Anna Mutombodzi (Customers and Exercise) Sithokozile Mrerwa (Director Human Resources and Administration) Tjiyapo Velempini (Director Infrastructure and Development), Clive Majengwa (Director Internal Audit).
They were implicated in a massive car importation racket.
"The board was troubled when the scandal, relating to the importation of vehicles by the executive management broke out.
"The CG had neither disclosed it to the board, nor taken any disciplinary action against the executives involved, four months after it happened" said Zimra board chair Willia Bonyongwe in an update Monday.
Willia is the wife to Zimbabwe's CIO boss, Happyton Bonyongwe
Several Zimra officials have been transferred to various stations in recent months.
