A 33-year old Guruve man was slapped with US$100 fine for destroying nature through veld fires by Guruve magistrate Antony Sanyatwi on Friday.
It was the state's case that Fibion Gondo started a veld fire on 30 September on his garden in Chikokonya Guruve and he failed to control the fire there by spreading in other people's fields.
Fellow farmers did not hesitate to file a police report that sent Gondo to court.
Gondo was lucky to have no serious damages from the fire and no report from Environmental Management Agents was recorded hence he only parted with US$100 fine.
In passing judgement Sanyatwi said veld fires are rampant in Mvurwi area and are causing serious damages with loss of life in some instances.
"People like you deserve to be punished because veld or wild fires are a cause of concern you are lucky that we do not have records from EMA that states how dangerous the fire was but since you admitted your offence and did not waste court's time you will spend 30 days in prison or pay US$100 fine," lamented Sanyatwi.
