Fake cop nabbed

A 35-year old man from Bonge village under chief Bota in Zaka is in police custody for allegedly committing numerous robberies.

Police confirmed the arrest of Jeremiah Gomo who was personifying a police officer with a fake police ID and a pistol.



It is alleged that on 11 August Gomo robbed 10,530 Botswana Pula from a man in Plumtree while pretending to need an exchange for US dollars.

Gomo is alleged to have sped off in his silver Audi vehicle, a station waggon with registration AEA 4213.

Gomo testified that sometime in May at Exor garage Masvingo he took 11,400 rands, in Gweru near OK CBD he is alleged to have robbed 11,000 rands and in Nyika he took 760 rands.

The alleged robber was arrested in Zaka after his car was spotted hidden in a nearby bush by alert detectives.

They searched his car and found a CZ 100 Pistol with a magazine of 5 live rounds, a suspected pellet gun marked Guerrilla Detective pistol S\n 347929 with an empty magazine, a pair of handcuffs, one sex video disc, 2 nylon ropes and 3 half meter iron bars.



In his wallet, the accused had 2 fake ZRP ID cards in his name with force number 0590337.

Gomo is not licensed to own a gun and he testified that he bought the firearms in South Africa. Since he robbed many places, Gomo failed to state how much he stolen so far.

Meanwhile, robbery cases are on the increase and police are appealing to members of the public to assist them in fighting crime.
