Harare council urges residents to clean drains

Harare City Council has urged residents and businesses to clear drains on the frontage of their properties to avert flooding this coming rain season following reports by weather experts that Zimbabwe will receive heavy rains.
Harare Residents Trust said the Council is doing all it can to clear drains along major thoroughfares and feeder roads but it is greatly worried by the continued deposit of garbage in the cleared drains.
Residents are empowered to maintain the frontage of their properties by the Harare (Road Verges) bylaw 2016.
"Residents who have illegally settled themselves on welfare and built illegal settlements are also by this notice urged to move off that land because of flooding fears and threat to human life," said the trust.
"A stitch in time saves nine. All people on such settlements should approach council for proper resettlement on approved housing land. Residents are also urged not to buy residential stands from third parties without verifying with council."
