Principals of opposition parties under the banner of the National Electoral Reform Agenda have slapped Home Affairs minister Ignatius Chombo with a $5.6 million lawsuit for abrogation of their constitutional rights to protests.

A total of $5 million is being demanded for exemplary damages for abrogation of rights to protest after police scuttled an electoral reforms demonstration on August 12.

The Nera principals are also demanding $600 000 for damages over harassment, intimidation and contumelia after police tear gassed them at the Harare Magistrates' Court.
