Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere is reportedly under probe for his role in facilitating the illegal sale of 85 tonnes of ivory in China.

Government sources said that Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa had been leading the investigation through the Office of the President and Cabinet.

Police are said to be involved in the investigations.

Another source said claimed Mnangagwa handed over a damning dossier to President Robert Mugabe relating to the cyanide poisoning of elephants in 2015 and the subsequent shipping of tusks to China before the veteran politician left for Malaysia last week.

Meanwhile Kasukuwere has claimed that further exposés about under fire Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo are ill-conceived and damaging the ruling party.

Prof Moyo and his deputy Godfrey Gandawa are accused of swindling the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef) of close to half a million dollars to fund party and personal programmes.

Kasukuwere who is himself embroiled in a residential stands scandal said further exposure of Minister Moyo could damage Zanu-PF, which he said was already dealing with the matter internally.
