Three City of Harare fire fighters were today severely burnt while attending to a fire outbreak at an illegal ethanol storage facility in Sunningdale, Harare.
Harare City Council Spokesperson, Michael Chideme confirmed the development, adding that the three are Tapera Chipara, Naboth Zvaita and Wisdom Yonamu.
He said when the officers entered the storage facility, there was an explosion leading to a huge fire.
"They managed to walk out of the inferno but sustained serious injuries. They are currently hospitalised at Parirenyatwa Hospital and we are planning to evacuate them to South Africa for specialised medication," said Chideme.
It is understood that the fire broke out during decanting at the illegal storage facility where 30 000 litres of ethanol were kept.
