A veteran broadcaster Jonathan Mutsinze has died. This was announce on social media by former ZBC presenter Eric Knight.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow scribes, Zimbabwean Broadcasters and all members of the Media fraternity, it is with sadness, grief and sorrow to share with you the news that veteran Broadcaster Jonathan Mutsinze has passed on. He went to be with the Lord on Monday 17 October," he posted.
"Mutsinze is one of the greatest voices ever to be head at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation. A versatile, intelligent and kind old man are the three words I would use to describe him. Popularly known as 'Machewe' at ZBC, he was definitely the most experienced Broadcaster I have worked with. A fatherly figure who I must say, was quick to discipline us if he felt like we were on the wrong foot, he had retired in 1999. At that time he was the Chief Producer at Radio Zimbabwe."
Knight said some of his most popular programmes included Tsika Dzedu, Zvisivizo Zverufu, ChiKristu neTsika in addition to vernacular football commentaries. Before joining Radio 2,
"Machewe also worked as a Producer cum Presenter at the English channel Radio One. Due to his versatility in languages, he was also the voice behind the popular Sports magazine programme Kingsgate Kingdom of Sports, which he presented exceptionally well in Ndebele, Shona and English," Knight said.
"Words are not enough to describe the role the man played to shape what ZBC is today. He passed on peacefully at his farm in Ruwa. Ndinotenda nezvamakndidzidzisa baba. Zororai murugare vaMutsinze. You will be remembered forever sir."
