Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has thanked Zanu-PF for endorsing President Mugabe as its candidate for general elections expected next year or in 2013 saying he will defeat him.
Tsvangirai said Mugabe is a "walkover" to him and will finish him off in the next elections because he is too old.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa said President Mugabe will make several appointments to the Zanu-PF Politburo at the party's annual conference that starts in Bulawayo this week. Mutasa said the fresh appointments would be necessitated by the death of some politburo members.
Zanu-PF national chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo says the 12th Zanu-PF Annual National People's Conference, which kicks off in Bulawayo on Wednesday, is expected to leverage ongoing efforts to empower the majority of Zimbabweans through the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme.
Khaya Moyo said debate at the 4-day event will centre on improving the fortunes of the general populace.
He said it was critical for the nation to create wealth for posterity. He said the conference would also focus on mobilising support ahead of the proposed polls.
"We will chart methods on how to move fast in mobilising everyone with particular focus on young and female voters. This is a very key constituency that should be given the utmost priority. We are not only interested in their vote, but also to have them play a significant part in the country's economy through our programmes such as the Land Reform Exercise and indigenisation."
