Cross border transporter fined $100 for smuggling

A Zimbabwean cross border transporter Mandisi Ncube (36) has been fined $100 for smuggling goods worth $1740, 65 and failing to pay a duty amounting to $39, 88.
He pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sithembiso Ncube. The magistrate convicted and fined him $100 in default of which he will spend 21 days in jail.
The court heard that on October 20 this year detectives from Minerals and border control unit Bulawayo received a tip off to the effect that the accused was in possession of suspected smuggled goods along in the city.
The detectives went to the scene and identified themselves as police officers before search his vehicle. They found goods worth $1740, 65 and when they asked him to produce declaration documents he failed.
The goods were taken to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.
