Government embark on health sector head count
26 Oct 2016 at 07:13hrs | Views
Government health workers who are on leave have been recalled for a head count in their stations.
The six week counting phase by the Health Services Board began last week and has raised speculation of possible retrenchments.
A similar program has been done in other government ministries.
"The exercise follows a Cabinet approval of the Civil Service Audit report on 17 November 2015 in which all other Commissions, including the HSB were directed to implement measures to rationalise the Government Wage Bill.
"The HSB is therefore conducting a head count within the same framework" HSB executive director Ruth Kaseke said Adding that the exercise was not meant to retrench employees.
On Tuesday, Bulawayo24.com quoted Labour minister Prisca Mupfumira saying government has no retrenchment plans for its bloated workforce.
