A Baker'S INN employee on Tuesday appeared in court for allegedly activating the dough mixer while his colleague was busy cleaning, causing him to be crushed to death.
Tafadzwa Guta (33) appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Bianca Makwande facing culpable homicide charges.
He was remanded to November 24 on $50 bail. The court heard that Guta operated the dough mixer while the deceased, David Chigifi, operated the dough divider.
It is alleged that on October 23 Guta and Chigifi were at work at No. 1 Shepperton Road, Graniteside, Harare. The court heard that at around 3am, Chigifi was busy cleaning the dough mixer when Guta, who was on the other side, pressed a button which lifts the dough mixer bowel over the dough divider.
The court heard that the machine squeezed Chigifi against a hooper machine killing him instantly. It is alleged that from the operating panel Guta could not see where Chigifi was standing. The pair was working adjacent to each other.
