Man steals taxi he had hired to go and pay lobola

A man from Munyenga village in Makoni has appeared in court after he allegedly stole a taxi that he had hired to go and pay lobola.

Andrew Mapfumo Takuda (38) of Munyengwa Village under chief Makoni near Tsanzaguru Primary School in Rusape who duped a Chivhu taxi driver Prince Shonhiwa (24) of a vehicle (Honda fit) which he had hired to go and pay bride price at plot 50 Honeyspruit in Chivhu sometime in July this year has appeared at Chivhu Magistrates' court.

He appeared before Resident Magistrate Archie Wochiunga facing charges of theft.

Edward Matengu (44) of Highview, Chivhu is the complainant in the matter.
It is the State case that on July 16, this year, the accused person hired a Honda Fit motor vehicle registration number AEB9607 which was being driven by Shonhiwa.

The accused person and Shonhiwa proceeded to Shonhiwa's place of residence at Chivhu location where he was supposed to change his clothes. The accused was left outside cleaning the vehicle whilst Shonhiwa went inside to change clothes.

During that time, the accused took the keys which were left on the ignition and drove away leaving Shonhiwa behind.

Investigations were made leading to the arrest of the accused person and the recovery of the vehicle at Bhovhenzi garage which is 69km along Rusape -Nyanga road where he had an accident.George Mukototsi prosecuted.
