Jonathan Moyo in Constitutional Court victory, criminal proceedings suspended

The Constitutional Court has suspended all criminal proceedings against the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Professor Jonathan Moyo pending determination of a constitutional challenge on whether the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arresting powers.

Professor Jonathan Moyo's lawyer Advocate Terrence Hussein confirmed this development.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Dr Godfrey Gandawa has been remanded in custody to tomorrow by Harare Magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe pending determination of his application for bail.

Dr Gandawa is facing charges of fraud, criminal abuse of duty, corruptly defeating the course of justice as well as corruptly concealing a transaction from a principal.

The charges stem from the alleged misappropriation of more than US$100 000 from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (ZIMDEF).
