Nyanga Community Development Trust has called for a probe and arrest of its member who is accused of abusing a child after being deployed to deal with children on issues of children's rights.

NCDT in a statement said it is committed to protecting the rights and interests of children in line with the United Nations Charter on the Rights of the Child, African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children, Constitution of Zimbabwe, relevant statutory instruments and our Child Protection Policy.

"It has come to our attention that one of our community based care workers whom we have entrusted with the responsibility to coordinate programs to support children's welfare has been allegedly involved in compromising acts with a child. We deeply regret this act but wish to categorically state that our organization does not condone improper association nor abuse of children in whatever form (physical, sexual and emotional), especially those vulnerable and marginalized in our communities which we have been so happy to serve with passion. The organization has a zero tolerance towards alleged perpetrators and anyone who tries to harm children," reads the statement in part.

"As a child friendly organization, NCDT board members, staff and volunteers are bound by the Child Protection Policy from which we have committed ourselves to act in the 'best interest of the child' and specifically that no harm should come to children supported by the organization. We resolutely support all the efforts that are made against anyone who has abrogated our jealously guarded commitment and urge swift action for justice to take its course."
