Robbers pounced in the early hours of today at a primary school in Mashonaland Central Province Mvurwi.

It is alleged Holy Rosary primary school was robbed of its petty cash amounting to US$ 1 635 and (econet) airtime recharge cards amounting to US$55.

Sources familiar with the incident said the school guard Vitalis Chiripanyanga (23) was approached by three men armed with a pistol and tied him with a rope before breaking into the acting headmistress Janet Tauzeni's office where they found keys to the strong room.

When contacted for comment the guard Chiripanyanga confirmed the incident but referred further questions to the police.
