'Don't celebrate my life when I am dead,' says Zimbabwean boxing Champ

Former Commonwealth boxing champion Zvenyika "Mosquito" Alfonso is living in deep poverty saying he spent all the money he earned during his career.

Alfonso, a former convict now makes a living loading passengers' luggage on top of buses at Mbare Musika Bus Terminus.

"I am a famous man, but with no assets or even a bank account," he is quoted saying.

"All the money I made I spent it.

"If only I earned that money with the knowledge I have now I will be somewhere. Life has been my greatest teacher," he told a local publication.

Alfonso warned people who might be eying to cash in on him when he dies.

"If I died today the way I am let it be.

"I don't want any donations from anyone. If there is no food at my funeral let it be that way.

"You know when I was doing the job, doors would open for me but now that the lion is wounded you say the lion is dead, but I am not a beggar.

"People want to buy drinks when I am dead and celebrate my life after I am gone. No, if you are not going to do it now, don't do it when I am dead."
