Govt praises Padare Men's Forum in fighting gender based violence

Government has acknowledged the role being played by Padare Men's Forum in fighting gender based violence as a basis for nurturing boys and men who will have great respect for their female counterparts, Zbc reported.
As the country commemorates 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, Padare Men's Forum is one organisation that has been complementing government efforts in addressing the issue of gender based violence.
Speaking at the Padare Men of Quality Campaign in Harare, Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development Minister, Dr Olivia Muchena said boys should be taught at an early age to respect women and promote a culture of non violence in every aspect of life.
She commended Padare for coming up with initiatives that are critical in the establishment of a harmonious society.
Commenting on the behaviour of the Prime Minister, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai, which shows utter disrespect of women, Padare Director, Mr Kelvin Hakutangwi said this goes against latest efforts to have a generation of men of honour who respect women as equal partners.
The theme for this year's commemorations is "From peace in the homes, to peace in the world, let's challenge all forms of Gender Based Violence,"
According to the latest statistics, the country has this year recorded over 2500 cases of gender based violence up from the 1200 cases recorded last year.
