FORMER editor of The Worker magazine Mr David Muzhuzha has filed a US$200 000 lawsuit against MDCT for allegedly defaming him in a case he claims to be the one who coined the party name.
Mr Muzhuzha claims he was the one who coined the name Movement for Democratic Change in 1998 when he was still editor of The Worker - a paper controlled and owned by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.
But MDC-T, in the Financial Gazette, has denied the claims and instead argued that the late Learnmore Jongwe initially came up with the name "Democratic Movement for Change" before Ms Grace Kwinjeh refined it to MDC.
They dismissed Mr Muzhuzha's claims as false.
However, Mr Muzhuzha contends that the denial by MDC-T had an effect of defaming him.
Being a journalist, author and farmer, Mr Muzhuzha feels he was labelled a liar who was unashamed of distorting the historical truths about the party.
Mr Muzhuzha, the author of "A TRAVESTY OF DEMOCRACY . . . The untold story", strongly contends that his version was true and the denial by MDC-T was meant to attack his character.
He cited MDC-T, its spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora and director general Mr Toendepi Shonhe as defendants in the lawsuit filed on Tuesday at the High Court.
MDC-T and its officials are yet to respond to the summons. Mr Joseph Mandizha of Mandizha and Company is acting for Mr Muzhuzha.
