The Minister of Welfare Services for War Vetarans, War Collaborators and Ex-Political Detainees and Restrictees Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube has told the former freedom fighters in Chinhoyi that delays in payment of school fees for their dependants has been a result of failure by treasury to raise the funds on time.
War veterans from across the country met with some of their leaders in Chinhoyi over the weekend where the freedom fighters raised a number of demands which they felt would assist in their welfare.
The war veterans demanded to have their pay-outs increased to the poverty datum level, timeous payment of school fees for their dependents, and a waiver on payment of land levy.
Secretary for War Veterans , War Collaborators and Restrictees in the Zanu PF Politburo Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, who is also the Minister of Defence, pledged to have the former freedom fighters' concerns addressed as matter of urgency.
The meeting was one of a series to be held in different parts of the country by the ministry to understand some of the grievances faced by the former freedom fighters.
