The rains that fell in the capital recently have helped to put out the raging fire that had gutted Pomona dumpsite for over a week.

The fire which was detected early last week on Sunday morning had proved to be a challenge for the city fathers with various stakeholders coming together to try and put out the fire.

In the aftermath of the fire, the City of Harare says efforts are being made to engage the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing in order to find new sites to be used as dumpsites.

Pomona dumpsite was supposed to be decommissioned in 2012 but had continued to be used posing a health hazard to residents.
