Zvimba Rural District Council has increased its 2017 budget by 48 percent with the budget proposal being adopted by full council on Monday.
The 2017 budget has been set at US$8.6 million up from US$5.8 million in 2016.
The proposed 2017 budget prioritises capital projects, which are expected to increase from US$1.3 million this year to US$5 million next year.
Councillor Reuben Smith, who chairs the Zvimba Rural District Council finance committee said some of the funds will be raised thorough cash savings in investments this year and borrowing to the tune of US$2 million.
The council's chief executive officer Mr Peter Hlohla says besides the increase in next year's budget, Zvimba also hopes to reduce its wage bill to 13,8 percent of the total budget, with the major cost cutting measure being the use of CCTVs for security and a reduction of unnecessary allowances.
The local authority also resolved that there be a clear position on how to respond to requests for assistance from several ministries.
