Harare west legislator Jessie Fungayi Majome said over the weekend her crew went on a door to door recruiting members for the MDC-T as the party gears for the 2018 elections.
"We had here in Harare West in the MDC team that I am part of going door to door in Matidoda Park recruiting new members to the party as it has policies to ensure everyone has a fair chance at a good quality of life based on the ideology of Social Democracy which promotes market forces tempered by attention to the needs of marginalized groups," she said.
"We were also conducting voter education. Our main message was to alert all residents to get ready to register to vote in the next few months when the biometric registration starts even if they were on the voters' roll in 2013 because The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will start a new roll from scratch. If you don't get onto the new roll you won't be able to vote in the 2018 synchronized elections for president, MPs and councillors."
Majome said the reception they got was generally warm and encouraging, though a considerable number of people expressed fear of being victimized for overt political participation.
"We would encourage them to assert and exercise their democratic rights reminding them that the participation and voting by thunderous numbers is the best way of keeping intimidation at bay. I invite you to join the MDC T and encourage others to do the same. Please inbox me if you are interested," she said.
