An abused woman approached the courts for a protection order in Mutare.

The couple appeared before  Yeukai Chigodora.

Beauty Nyangwena informed the court that her husband, Tulani Sithole is disturbing her peace, insulting and assaulting her whenever he gets drunk.

"Your Worship, I am tired of this man's wayward behaviour. I have suffered enough at his hands. I now need the law to protect me. Whenever he gets drunk he makes a lot of noise disturbing my peace as well as the children's. At one point he disconnected electricity while I was cooking. He also insults my mother. He neglects his family. I am the one who pays for the bills for the family's expenditures because he does not work, but does not appreciate my efforts. All he can do in return is to assault me," said Nyangwena.

Asked to respond to the allegations, Sithole denied some of them saying Nyangwena was the one who abused him as she was also in the habit of insulting him in the presence of his in-laws.

Sithole said "I never assaulted her Your Worship as she is claiming, but she is noisy. She always insults me in the presence of my in-laws."

"If I was abusing him, I think he should have approached the courts first. He is lying. I was diagnosed with cancer last year and I am taking some medication. Doctors instructed me to have more time to rest, but this is not happening. He comes home heavily intoxicated," she said.

Chigodora granted the protection order in favour of Nyangwena saying she was entitled to her peace.
