It has come to our attention that the Public Service Commission (PSC) has deployed officers countrywide to terrorise rural teachers affiliated to Amalgamated Rural Teachers' Union of Zimbabwe, (ARTUZ).

In Masvingo the PSC officials demanded names of teachers affiliated to ARTUZ and threatened them with job losses if they take heed of our call for a strike.

At one of the schools, Zibwowa Primary School, they went to the extent of rounding up all teachers threatening them with unspecified action if they fail to produce names of those who are on a go slow.

We are documenting all the incidences of labour rights violations being committed by our employer and we will soon report the cases to the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission and also sue those threatening teachers in their private capacities.

Meanwhile our call for a go slow has been heeded by the bulk of rural teachers. The teachers are also ready for the strike beginning on 20 February 2017 if our demand of bonus disbursement dates is not met.
