Crisis coalition condemns 'careless statement' on shut down schools in Matabeland South

Crisis coalition would like to condemn in the strongest possible terms the callous and careless statement attributed to a senior government official that the government is considering closing forty schools in Matabeland South.

This move smacks of further alienation, discrimination and marginalization of an already exploited region .

It is frivolous and vexatious for government to claim these schools are not viable when the government is presiding over more than fifty loss making parastatals and yet these lose making entities are still dear to government .

The move will cause children to travel long distances thus increasing the already high failure rate and drop out rates .Girl children will be exposed to rape and abuse due to the long distances they have to travel.

This would be and is a flagrant, daylight violation of section 75(access to education ) and section 81 of the constitution (children's rights).

We will not stand by idly as the rights of children are violated .

We call upon our members to resist this insane move .
