Unfairly treated workers - a new strategy in a new dispensation

As Zimbabwe goes through a transition from 37 year Robert Gabriel Mugabe rule - characterised by untold suffering for the majority of workers, through unpaid salaries, terminal benefits, and pensions - to an Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa era, there is an urgent need for these workers to formulate a new and effective strategy that will enable them to finally receive justice.

There are many questions that workers need to find solutions to, such as, how will the Mnangangwa government treat the issue of unpaid salaries, terminal benefits, and pensions; will the 2018 budget cater for parastatal worker who have been owed for several years; how can workers exert more pressure on the new government for their plight to receive a more sympathetic ear; what policies should be implemented to ameliorate the current cash shortages; and other issues that will chart a better future for Zimbabwean workers.

It is imperative that a strategy to address these issues be formulated at the earliest possible time, as the Mnangagwa dispensation still tries to consolidate its authority and re-brand itself as more people-centred.

As such, the Zimbabwe Network for Social Justice (ZimJustice) will be holding a series of workshops across the country, in a bid to meet unfairly treated workers so as to discuss, gather their views, and formulate this long-overdue strategy.

The workshops, whose theme is: 'A new workers' strategy for a new dispensation', will be held in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutate, and Kwekwe  in December 2017.

ZimJustice urges all those interested in this once in a lifetime opportunity for workers - from all walks of life, to be active players in the shaping of this new dispensation - to be part of these workshops.
