Banning of NGOs utter rubbish

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions joins the broader civic society groups in condemning the continued calls for the banning of non-governmental organizations in the country.
We believe that the ban of NGOs in Masvingo by that province's Governor, are only the tip of an iceberg. As the country prepares for a possible election next year, we are inclined to believe that the Zanu-PF side of government feels uncomfortable with the work that various NGOs are carrying out. The humanitarian nature of the work of NGOs unintentionally exposes how Zanu-PF has run down the country in the past three decades hence Zanu-PF is uncomfortable with this exposure.
The work that various NGOs have carried out in Zimbabwe is invaluable and has on countless occasions saved the country from major disasters ranging from drought, floods, deteriorating education and health standards. NGOs have stepped in to be a pillar where the Zimbabwean government has failed its people and they should not be crucified for ably doing what government has failed to do.
The ZCTU rubbishes the ban by the Governor and urges the NGOs in Masvingo to ignore this ban as he is not an authority that has the power to ban operations of independent organizations. The ZCTU stands in solidarity with the affected organizations.
