The Interim President of Mavambo Kusile Dawn (M.K.D), Dr. Simba Makoni on behalf of the National Management Committee (NMC), the entire nation of Zimbabwe and his own behalf would like to register his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families on the sad and untimely loss of twenty â€"five (25) precious lives in separate road accidents on Thursday, 22 March and Sunday, 25 March 2012. The fatal accidents occurred in Mbembesi and Nyanga respectively.
We are deeply saddened by continued loss of innocent lives through road carnage. The country's roads, which have become a death trap, are in a dilapidated state despite the fact that the Inclusive Government (IG) is realizing a lot of revenue from tollgates. Corruption has also taken its toll on the roads owing to regulatory authorities who receive bribes to allow smooth passage of road unworthy vehicles along the country's highways.
It is as unfortunate as it is regrettable that passengers, who usually come out worse off when such eventualities occur, are partly to blame. They rarely complain about drunk, speeding drivers and unfit vehicles. Passengers have the right, not only to complain, but to reject and report to authorities those that drink and drive.
May the dear departed souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace.
Meanwhile, Dr. Makoni and Mai Makoni would like to wish a speedy recovery to all those injured in the road accidents.
