Tsvangirai consoles the Mudzingwa family

Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday visited the Mudzingwa residence to convey his condolences to relatives of the late Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrustructural Development Dr Tichaona Mudzingwa who died at the Avenues Clinic on Tuesday evening.
Addressing mourners at the Mudzingwa home last night, Tsvangirai said the party has lost an experienced, mature and a man of conviction. "Dr Mudzingwa was a disciplined man who had respect for the leadership of the party regardless of their age. He was humble and very candid in manner and always encouraging those around him not lose hope," he said.
Tsvangirai said Dr Mudzingwa was his mentor."Dr Mudzingwa fought in two struggles, namely the liberation struggle for independence from colonial rule and the democratic struggle for real change.
"During the struggle for real change, Dr Mudzingwa had three cars burnt but he continued with the struggle showing that he did not value material things and was always ready to be sent on party business.
"You, the Mudzingwa family gave us a true hero and a determined son of Zimbabwe," Tsvangirai said.
Dr Mudzingwa was a liberation struggle war veteran whose political career started in January 1960 when he joined the National Democratic Party's Youth Wing, while at Fletcher High in Gweru. He underwent military training as a guerrilla fighter in Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia and was a member of the Military High Command from 1975 to 1980.
During the same period, he became the first medical doctor to receive full military training and to be deployed to the military front in Zambia and Mozambique.
Also speaking at the funeral, MDC Secretary General Tendai Biti said the party is saddened by the loss of a real war veteran who once served in the Dare ReChimurenga, the highest serving body of Zanu during the liberation struggle.
Biti expressed shock at the absence of Zanu-PF liberation movement leaders at the funeral.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Mr Partson Mbiriri paid condolences on behalf of the ministry and described Dr Mudzingwa as a very honest and principled. Mr Mbiriri said Dr Mudzingwa was a practical hands-on minister who always did his reports timeously. He said the ministry will emulate and miss him.
Dr Mudzingwa was born on 23 December 1942 in Buhera, Manicaland province in a family of eight. He was widowed and is survived by a son.
Mourners are gathered at 380 Shelbourne Road, Uplands, Waterfalls in Harare. He will be buried on Sunday 15 April 2012 in Harare.
